CROMWELL — A construction worker used a company-owned retired ambulance to broadcast "vulgar messages" at a local shopping plaza over the weekend, according to the Cromwell fire chief.

Police and fire officials received an apology from a construction company owner who discovered his employee had used the PA system on a company-owned retired ambulance to make profane broadcasts over the weekend, Cromwell Fire Chief Jason Brade said in the post a Facebook post

Cromwell firefighters received complaints after the broadcasts were made at the plaza that houses ShopRite and other stores on Shunpike Road from what appeared to be a local ambulance, Fire Chief Jason Brade said in the post.

The vehicle was actually a retired ambulance that was being used by a construction company, he said. The owner of the construction company realized what the company car was being used for only after seeing the complaints on Facebook, Brade said in the post.

The owner told town officials that the vehicle had been loaned to an employee because their car broke down, according to the post.

The vehicle was returned to the company and the employee has since been fired, Brade said. The owner called Brade and officials at the police department to apologize, according to the post and to police dispatchers.

Cromwell police did not say whether the incident was being investigated, as of Sunday afternoon.
