Arlington police are investigating after more than a dozen cars were vandalized with racist messages last week.

Between Friday evening and Saturday morning, vandals wrote “racist and vulgar graffiti” on 17 vehicles in eastern and southern portions of the city, police said in a Sunday news release.

Some of the phrases sprayed on vehicles were anti-Black racial slurs, said Tim Ciesco, an Arlington police spokesman.

“We also found vulgar phrases and images not associated with any one racial, ethnic group spray-painted on the vehicles,” he added.

Investigators believe the incidents are connected with the same group of suspects.

“We do not have any evidence to suggest the victims’ vehicles were specifically targeted,” Ciesco said. “While some of the victims are Black, we also had white and Hispanic victims who had the same phrases spray painted on their vehicles.”

Authorities are gathering surveillance video from neighborhoods that were targeted, police said in a Sunday news release.

Anyone with information or surveillance video related to string of vandalism incidents is asked to call the Arlington Police Department at 817-459-5327.
