According to sources, the allegation has come out against Fr Sebastian Keezheth, the vicar of Adakkathode Church. The diocese has removed him from all official posts of the Church, pending enquiry and has forwarded the complaint to the Safe Environment Committee, an internal complaints committee of the archdiocese.
Diocese spokesperson Sallu Abraham said that the diocese has a permanent committee, a four-member panel having a female lawyer as its chairperson.
"It has a nun who is an advocate, a retired police officer and a priest who has a doctorate in the canon as its members. This committee has independent powers, and it was formed as per the law to look into such incidents. If the committee finds the offence is grave enough to be forwarded to the police, they will do so. If the act of the priests calls for action from the Church, they will file a report in this regard to us. Further action will be taken based on the committee's findings," said Abraham.
According to sources, the priest has claimed that he had accidentally sent the video to the group.
