The Daily: Niederbach Exits Frolunda, Players Admire Crosby, Vulgar Sharks Message - Detroit Hockey Now

musognaol.blogspot.com

Theodor Niederbach, one of the Detroit Red Wings top forward prospects, is leaving the Swedish team Frolunda, possibly to play for Rogle BK.

Niederbach’s playing time was limited in Frolunda and Rogle BK has a reputation for developing younger players.  Red Wings draftee William Wallinder, a defenseman, left Modo last season to join Rogle BK and blossomed into a more polished prospect.

Despite his limited playing time, Niederbach netted nine goals and finished with 16 points. The Red Wings drafted him 51st overall in 2020.

No more Frolunda Red Wings?

Frolunda was voewed as the Swedish Red Wings this season because of the presence of Simon Edvinsson, Elmer Soderblom and Niederbach. Next season, Edvinsson is expected to be with Detroit. Soderblom may also be in Detroit or Grand Rapids and Niederbach will be in Rogle.  It is possible Liam Dower Nilsson, a 2021 fifth-round pick, will be the only Red Wings’ prospect in Frolunda next. He primarily played for the Frolunda junior team this season.

In Case You missed It

This week Wayne Gretzky told Spiittin’ Chiclets podcast the story about how he almost came to Detroit, instead of Los Angeles in 1988.

Red Wings director of scouting Kris Draper told a Swedish media outlet that the Red Wings will decide whether to bring defenseman Albert Johansson to North America after his season is completed.

Auston Matthews is being hailed as the first American-born player to score 60 or more goals. All true, worthy of celebration. But he’s not the first American player to do it. Former Detroit Red Wings player Brett Hull, an American, registered three seasons of 70 or more goals. Hockey Now explains the distinction.

Hot Wings

Tyler Bertuzzi will be back in the Red Wings’ lineup Friday against New Jersey after missing the last game in Toronto because he is not vaccinated. Bertuzzi has been one of Detroit’s most consistent players this season:  Since Jan. 2, Bertuzzi has 17 goals and 21 assists for 38 points in 42 games.

Cold Wings
