Vulgarity in our political discourse only diminishes America - cleveland.com

In his Jan. 26 column (”Why only now is crime a problem?”), Eric Foster writes about the rage he feels as an African American. He’s not alone when it comes to holding back rage. There are those in our society who feel it is OK for them to express their rage about masks, shots, critical race theory, and corrupt elections using the most vulgar of words, all under the false assumption that they are making America great again.

If they want to make America great again, they can begin by seeking out elected officials who have a record of decency and integrity. We need, once again, to embrace family values, civility, modesty, politeness, and a moral compass that includes doing what is right.

A person who uses foul and vulgar language is only showing his/her ignorance of the English language and exposing their limited vocabulary. That limited vocabulary says a lot about the person. A bumper sticker or large flag attacking President Joe Biden with words not appropriate in a family newspaper do not scream, “Hey, I’m a great person, well-educated and willing to hear both sides of the story.”
