CONNECTICUT — The brand-new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance on how vaccinated people should interact with other people won't have a big effect on Connecticut's current coronavirus restrictions, Gov. Ned Lamont said Monday.
"Look if you're hanging around with a lot of other people who have also been vaccinated then you don't necessarily have to wear a mask if you're in a private setting, which is sort of good common sense," Lamont said during a news conference. "... more broadly though it's going to still take another month or two before the broad cross-section of people have been vaccinated. In the meantime it's a good thing to wear your mask and show respect for them, even if you have been vaccinated."
Lamont announced last week that the state would end capacity limits at many businesses later in March.
In the meantime, Lamont encouraged people to use masks at their discretion outdoors and to use them indoors when in public spaces.
The new CDC guidance has been highly-sought by people across the country, especially since larger chunks of the population have been vaccinated in the past couple of weeks.
The CDC guidance is as follows:
- You can gather indoors with fully vaccinated people without wearing a mask.
- You can gather indoors with unvaccinated people from one other household (for example, visiting with relatives who all live together) without masks, unless any of those people or anyone they live with has an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19.
- If you've been around someone who has COVID-19, you do not need to stay away from others or get tested unless you have symptoms.
- However, if you live in a group setting (like a correctional or detention facility or group home) and are around someone who has COVID-19, you should still stay away from others for 14 days and get tested, even if you don't have symptoms.
Some residents have reported issues getting a sign-up eligibility email through the federal VAMs vaccine appointment system. State Chief Operating Officer Josh Geballe said people should check their email junk folder or sign-up again through the system to re-trigger the email send. Failing that, people can use an alternative registration system by visiting the state's vaccine website.
Connecticut is still on track for the rest of its age-based vaccine eligibility schedule, state Chief Operating Officer Josh Geballe said. More than 35,000 doses were administered in Connecticut on Friday, which is a new daily record for the state. Already the state has vaccinated about a quarter of the 55 to 64 population that became eligible just a week ago.
Another 137,000 first vaccine doses will arrive in Connecticut this week and more appointments will open up, Lamont said. People who have appointments several weeks out can check for new appointment slots, but should remember to cancel their old appointment.
More than 1.16 million vaccine doses have been administered in Connecticut as of Monday and 773,000 of those are first doses. Around a quarter of all Connecticut residents 16 and older have received at least one dose.
- 75 percent of people 75 and over.
- 64 percent of people between 65 and 74.
- 25 percent of people between 55 and 64.
