Nearly half of Oregonians are satisfied with the state’s job distributing COVID-19 vaccine, according to a poll released Thursday, while a majority remain somewhat worried about the coronavirus’ spread in their communities.
That was one takeaway from the poll by firm DHM Research, which surveyed 600 Oregonians earlier this month on a number of topics, including Gov. Kate Brown and President Biden’s handling of the pandemic, the vaccine rollout and other topics.
The poll arrived as the Oregon Health Authority on Wednesday announced 393 new coronavirus cases and four deaths due to the pandemic.
Some 48% of respondents indicated they were satisfied with vaccine distribution so far while 39% were dissatisfied and 13% didn’t know what to think of the effort.
Seniors were far more likely to have a pessimistic view of the rollout, with 55% of those 65 and older polled saying they were dissatisfied.
According to the survey, seniors were about equally upset about Brown’s decision to put teachers ahead of seniors in the vaccine line, with some 53% of seniors polled disagreeing with that decision.
Meanwhile, 60% of all respondents regardless of age said they were worried about the spread of COVID-19 in their communities while 37% said they were not.
A majority of those polled did say they supported Brown’s push to require hybrid or full-time in-person instruction for elementary school students by March 29.
Brown’s overall COVID-19 approval rating – with 42% strongly or somewhat approving of her handling – trailed President Biden’s 55%.
Oregon continues to have some of the lowest COVID-19 infection and death rates of any state in the country.
According to the pollster, whites were overrepresented in the poll, with 89% of respondents identifying as white.
The poll occurred from March 7 to 14 and included a margin of error of 4%.

Who died: Oregon’s 2,350th COVID-19 death is a 79-year-old Klamath County woman who tested positive March 12 and died March 14 at Sky Lakes Medical Center.
Oregon’s 2,351st death is a 44-year-old Marion County man who tested positive Feb. 16 and died March 15 at Salem Hospital.
Oregon’s 2,352nd death is a 54-year-old Linn County man who tested positive Dec. 21 and died March 15 at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
Oregon’s 2,353rd death is a 75-year-old Lane County man who tested positive March 14 and died March 14. State officials are confirming where he died.
Each person who died had underlying conditions, health officials said.
The prevalence of infections: On Thursday, the state reported 598 new positive tests out of 17,801 tests performed, equaling a 3.4% positivity rate.
Who got infected: New confirmed or presumed infections grew among the following age groups: 0-9 (25); 10-19 (46); 20-29 (51); 30-39 (65); 40-49 (63); 50-59 (52); 60-69 (37); 70-79 (21); 80 and older (3).
Who’s in the hospital: The state reported that 116 people were hospitalized with a confirmed case of COVID-19, which is eight more than Wednesday’s figure. There were 38 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, nine more than were in similar care Wednesday.
Vaccines administered: Oregon has administered 1,412,232 first and second doses as of Thursday. The state reported 49,166 new doses. Of those vaccines, 18,412 doses were administered Wednesday and 30,754 were administered on previous days but entered into the system Wednesday. The high numbers result from a lack of reporting earlier this week during a database outage.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 160,622 confirmed or presumed infections and 2,353 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 4,021,248 lab reports from tests.
