Vandals left messages reading “ACAB” and “BLM” on campaign signs posted outside the home of a Republican official in Fairfield.
Contributed PhotoFAIRFIELD — Days before the election, a Republican official found vulgar messages spray-painted on campaign signs and written in shaving cream along the driveway of his Fairfield home Saturday morning.
Chris DeWitt, the vice chair of the town’s Board of Finance, awoke Saturday to find the Republican campaign signs along the edge of his property vandalized with messages like “BLM” and “ACAB.” A car parked at the home was also egged, and a message reading “f--- Trump” was spelled out with shaving cream in the driveway.
In a Facebook post written Monday, Dewitt called the vandals “cowardly” and said the act has “not shaken our resolve.”
“You'll see more and bigger signs in my front yard right now. And we'll be at the polls on Tuesday supporting our candidates,” he wrote.
Both the Republican and Democratic town committees took to their respective Facebook pages to condemn the act.
“As we did in September following the attack at DTC HQ by an angry Trump supporter, we again come together with Fairfield Republicans to condemn this kind of behavior and call for civility. Regardless of our political beliefs, we are all Fairfielders. We are one community and must behave as such. Let’s do better, Fairfield,” wrote the DTC.
The RTC said the culprits were likely juveniles.
“Our community deserves better and we ask parents to speak to their children about this type of behavior,” they wrote in a Facebook post Saturday.
