In a week, cases have increased by over 1,800, with 6,506 active cases reported last week on Oct. 25.
Cass County reported the highest number of cases in the state at 182, bringing the number of active cases to 1,356.
Burleigh County, which includes Bismarck, reported 1,273 active cases, an increase of 175. Neighboring Morton and Stark counties now have 408 and 214 active cases, respectively. Grand Forks County added 104 cases, while Ward County reported 1,158 and Williston's Williams County recorded 283 total cases.
Excluding Slope County, every county in North Dakota has at least one active case.
Seven deaths were reported Sunday — a man in his 90s from Burleigh County, a man and a woman in their 90s from Cass County, two men in their 90s from Dickey County, a man in his 80s from Steele County and a man in his 80s from Stutsman County. So far, 531 North Dakotans have died from COVID-19. The number of people currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 is 200, with 24 in the ICU.
In terms of source of exposure, the cause of over 3,000 is unknown; 2,616 traced it to community and 1,489 to a close contact. The CDC regards a close contact as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from two days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic clients, two days prior to positive specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated. Only 15 cases have been reported as transmitted through travel.
The majority of actives cases are in the 20-29-years-old age group, with 1,598 at the moment, and 0-5 year-olds constitute the least affected. People over 80 are most of those hospitalized due to COVID-19.
Adams, Billings, Bowman, Dickey, Divide, Dunn, Eddy, Foster, Golden Valley, Grant, Griggs, Hettinger, Kidder, Logan, McIntosh, Oliver, Renville, Sargent, Sioux and Towner counties each added five or fewer new cases.
A total of 8,940 tests were conducted, in which 2,248 were tested for the first time and a 12.62% positivity rate was found. Of the 1,128 new cases, 499 had previously tested negative for COVID-19.
