England fans have been accused of going too far with a vulgar chant against Australia at the Ashes.

The first Ashes Test between England and Australia is set for a nail-biting end after four days of enthralling cricket at Edgbaston.

At the time of writing, England need seven wickets to clinch the opening test match while the visitors need 174 runs to win.

England fans have been in full voice over the course of the test match in Birmingham, with supporters hilariously taunting Australia's Steve Smith.

"Cry on the telly, we saw you cry on the telly," the Edgbaston crowd chanted. Travis Head was also ruthlessly targetted by The Eric Hollies Stand.

Supporters could also be heard chanting about the late Rolf Harris.

"Rolf Harris, he’s one of your own," England fans chanted in reference to him being Australian.

Harris, who passed away at the age of 93 in 2022, was convicted in 2014 of sexual assault of four underage girls.

The Australian players, however, had not complained, with a spokesman for the ECB and Edgbaston Stadium addressing the incident.

"There is clear protocol in place for players to report any abuse or discrimination aimed at them during a game," the statement reads.

"Players are encouraged to raise concerns with the umpires who in turn alert the match referee and then stadium security to make inquiries.

"No complaints or concerns have been raised by any of the Australia players to the umpires."

Speaking to The Australian, officials said 'there was nothing in it' and wouldn’t comment.

Adblock test (Why?)
