Vulgar Graffiti Telling Foreigners To 'Go Back To Your Country' Appears In Msida And Valletta - Lovin Malta

musognaol.blogspot.com

Vulgar and discriminatory statements calling for foreigners to “go back to your country” have appeared in a number of hot spots in key localities likes Msida and Valletta.

One line, written in bright red in front of a central area in Msida, says: “foreigners go back and f**k off”.

Two other lines that appeared in the Bombi area of Valletta states: “slaves €3.50 not welcome” and “go back to your country”.

The initial image, posted to the popular foreign-support group Expats Malta, generated a wide discussion on being welcome on the island and the xenophobia present in Malta, with both locals chiming in.

“That’s a bit brave for a country that depends mostly on foreigners in terms of economy,” said one person.

“Idiots are everywhere. We cannot generalise it to all locals,” said another.

“And a happy new year to you too,” said a third sarcastically.

Though the Msida graffiti was recorded today, the Valletta graffiti was noticed last week, and has since been covered up by local authorities.

This is far from the first time offensive or vulgar graffiti has appeared on Maltese streets; just a few weeks back, anti-trans graffiti appeared at University of Malta, leading to the launch of a campaign focused on respecting others.

And back in May, graffiti comparing Russian leader Vladimir Putin to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was snapped in the outskirts of Ta’ Qali.

What do you make of these kinds of comments sprayed onto public spaces?

Adblock test (Why?)
