MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead was hit with a rash of "hateful and vulgar" graffiti involving racist and anti-Semitic language last week, according to Police Chief Robert Picariello.
Picariello said police are investigating three cases of graffiti, which they believed to be related, and are seeking the public's help in finding out who is responsible.
"This type of behavior is disgusting and has no place in our community," Chief Picariello said. "I want to thank the residents that brought these incidents to our attention. We take all reports of hateful actions, racism and anti-Semitism extremely seriously and we will continue our investigation into these matters."
Police said vulgar graffiti was found in large block letters in black spray paint Sunday morning on a path near Front Street in Crocker Park.
The previous morning, anti-Semitic and racist graffiti was found in white spray paint on Warren Road near Ware Pond. Later that morning, anti-Semitic graffiti was found in large block letters in black spray paint under a bridge on Village Street.
Anyone with information about these incidents or anyone who has noticed suspicious activity in these areas is asked to call the Marblehead Police Department at 781-631-1212.
