The Oregon Health Authority on Saturday reported 376 new presumed and confirmed coronavirus cases and one new death connected to COVID-19.
The new figures come as some fully vaccinated Oregonians are throwing out their masks in social settings and diving back into their old routines full force with no reservations.
But experts in the fields of psychology and behavioral science say it’s entirely natural for even fully vaccinated people to feel nervous about returning to pre-pandemic life, such as stepping into a friend’s house for a dinner party, abandoning masks, returning to the office or joining a crowd.
Vaccines: Oregon reported 31,325 newly administered doses, which includes 15,280 on Friday and the remainder from previous days. The current rolling average is 27,472 doses every day.
Where the new cases are by county: Benton (4), Clackamas (38), Clatsop (2), Columbia (6), Coos (3), Crook (4), Curry (2), Deschutes (30), Douglas (13), Harney (6), Hood River (1), Jackson (18), Jefferson (6), Josephine (8), Klamath (11), Lane (28), Lincoln (1), Linn (11), Malheur (2), Marion (43), Multnomah (59), Polk (5), Sherman (3), Umatilla (13), Wasco (4), Washington (39) and Yamhill (16).
Who died: Oregon’s 2,666th death is a 79-year-old man from Douglas County who tested positive May 15 and died May 26 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend. He had no underlying conditions.
Hospitalizations: COVID-19 hospitalizations in Oregon continue to fall, dropping to 257 occupied beds on Saturday — three fewer than Friday. There are 56 COVID-19 patients in intensive care, which is three fewer than on Friday.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 201,004 confirmed or presumed infections and 2,666 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 3,927,367 vaccine doses administered, fully vaccinating 1,831,484 people.
