AN ANTI-BIDEN billboard in Maryland is angering locals over its graphic language and imagery.
The sign depicts President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as piles of fecal matter alongside the text, "Don't blame Trump! You are stuck with these two s---heads."
"From all your deplorables in Calvert County," reads the bottom of the sign, which is located on private property in Huntingtown.
The signature appears to be in reference to 2016 when then-candidate Hillary Clinton referred to Donald Trump's base as a "basket of deplorables."
Some in the community have spoken out against the sign for its vulgarity, such as Calvert County Democratic Central Committee Chair Jeanette Flaim.
“The obscene imagery and language displayed on this latest sign are deeply disturbing,” Flaim said.
“This does not reflect the values of our County, regardless of party."
Flaim said that families on their way to work or school should not have to see the sign, and neither should tourists and "visitors from far and wide."
The sign is located at the intersection of MD 4 and Bowie Shop Road on private property.
The Calvert County Government said in a statement that it cannot regulate the content of signs, citing the 2015 Supreme Court case Reed v. Town of Gilbert.
"The Calvert County local sign regulations are based on location, materials, and size, not verbiage," the statement reads.
"Regulating any content based on the Supreme Court decision would be illegal."
Overall, Maryland has voted overwhelmingly blue in recent years. Clinton won Maryland in 2016 with over 60 percent of the vote, and Biden won with over 65 percent of the vote in 2020.
However, Calvert County voted 56.8 percent for Trump in 2016 and 51.9 percent in 2020.
In 2018, the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners voted to allow signs with graphic language and images.
“I’m not sure this is what those Commissioners had in mind when they took that vote,” Flaim said.
"It’s this sign we think is...damaging to all of us, all of us in Calvert. The GOP, the independents, everybody."
