The Minnesota Health Department reported three new cases of COVID-19 in St. Louis County on Friday.
Statewide, eight new COVID-19 related deaths were reported Friday, seven of which were located in long-term care or assisted-living facilities. In total, the state has recorded 1,466 deaths related to COVID-19.
Carlton County reported two new cases of COVID-19, bringing the number of reported cases since the start of the pandemic to 85. St. Louis County has reported 177 cases during that same timeframe.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported two new cases in Douglas County, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 39. The county has seen 19 new cases in the last eight days, nearly doubling its total of 20 cases recorded up until June 25. Prior to June 25, the county went nearly three weeks without a new case of the illness.
Forty-nine Minnesota counties reported new cases Friday. Outside the seven-county metro area, Stearns County in central Minnesota reported 30 new cases. Olmsted County in the southern part of the state reported 25 new cases.
As of Friday, 270 people were hospitalized in Minnesota because of the virus. Of this number, 132 were hospitalized in an intensive care unit setting.
The majority of cases fall within the 20-29 age group, which has 7,979 confirmed cases in total since the pandemic began.
