  • "My marriage scheduled for April was called off due to the viral chats. My life has been spoilt," woman tells police.
  • Says she was not active on social media.
  • Police say one of woman's colleagues who had proposed to her suspected to be behind crime.

A man decided to call his wedding off after he found out that some "vulgar" messages were sent to multiple people from his bride-to-be's social media accounts.

According to Mid-Day, the Mumbai-based man and his family decided to cancel the wedding despite the woman telling them that someone had hacked into her account to send inappropriate messages.

Per the report, the woman, 31, was not active on social media. Shortly before her wedding, her male friends and acquaintances told her that they had received obscene messages from her social media accounts. What's more, screenshots of those messages were also circulated to malign the woman's reputation in her circle.

The messages and screenshots were also sent to the groom and his family, after which they decided to call the wedding off.

When the woman logged into her social media accounts to check what was going on, she found that the messages had indeed been sent through her accounts, which made her realise that someone had hacked into them.

She registered a case with the Jogeshwari police against an unidentified hacker, the report said.

“My Facebook account was hacked on January 8 this year and when I checked, I found many chats I had not initiated. Someone had also uploaded photos and videos of me which were done without my knowledge. My marriage scheduled for April was called off due to the viral chats. My life has been spoilt," the woman said in her statement to the police.

The police said that the hacker is suspected to be one of the woman's colleagues as he had proposed to her a few months ago but the woman had refused. Since then, they hadn't spoken to each other.

The police added that the culprit had intentionally hacked into her account to malign her reputation so that her wedding could be cancelled.
