Oregon health officials announced 883 new coronavirus cases Tuesday and 49 deaths connected to COVID-19.
Health officials announced Oregon’s first three omicron variant cases Monday, with more expected. Research indicates vaccines are less effective in protecting people from this variant of the coronavirus, although in the case of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, they still appear to provide substantial protection from hospitalization.
Where the new cases are by county: Baker (4), Benton (11), Clackamas (64), Clatsop (7), Columbia (8), Coos (46), Crook (17), Curry (5), Deschutes (46), Douglas (39), Harney (2), Hood River (4), Jackson (57), Jefferson (2), Josephine (16), Klamath (18), Lane (54), Lincoln (5), Linn (50), Malheur (4), Marion (102), Morrow (1), Multnomah (85), Polk (33), Tillamook (13), Umatilla (22), Union (28), Wallowa (1), Wasco (8), Washington (83), Wheeler (8) and Yamhill (40).
Who died: Health officials did not immediately release details about those who died.
Hospitalizations: 382 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized, down 26 from Monday. That includes 97 people in intensive care, down nine from Monday.
Vaccines: 3,075 people have been reported newly vaccinated since Monday.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 402,436 confirmed or presumed infections and 5,469 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 6,423,175 vaccine doses administered, fully vaccinating 2,727,848 people and partially vaccinating 270,903 people.
