Kolkata: In yet another shameful incident reported from West Bengal, a Karnataka man was arrested on charges of allegedly using the image of a 24-year-old medical student on a dating website without her consent.

The accused, identified as Sanjay Ballery, was arrested by Kolkata Police on Monday for creating profile of the woman on dating site.

While commenting on the episode, an official added that “One Sanjay Ballery of Noojibalthila, Puttur taluka, Dakshina Kannada district, has been arrested, and was brought to Kolkata on transit remand,” as per the report in the Indian Express.

Woman got vulgar calls at night

Elaborating further on the case, the cops added that they received a complaint from the medical student where she said that she was getting vulgar phone calls at night recently.

On enquiring further, the victim was shocked to know that her profile with her name, photo, and phone number was created on a dating website without her consent. Following this, she approached the cops to file a complaint.

The accused was booked under various sections of IPC

The police not only did track the IP address of the accused but also lodged a case under IPC sections 292 (sale of obscene object), 500 (defamation), 506 (criminal intimidation), 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication), 509 (word, gesture, act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Following the arrest, the accused was taken to a local court in Karnataka and was granted a police transit remand.
