Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. The search for a missing woman who was last seen in Myrtle Beach on Sunday has ended with her body being found in Florence County. Sheridan Wahl, 21, of Tampa, Florida was in Myrtle Beach to visit family here, but she never showed up at their residence. However, Wahl did attempt to rent a scooter at around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 19th, at a rental agency on the 300 block of South Ocean Boulevard. She was refused service because she was barefoot, according to a family member who had not heard from Wahl since, became concerned, and reported her missing. The Florence County coroner confirmed that the body found behind the Hannah-Salem Fire Department on Tuesday is that of Sheridan Wahl. There are no additional details at this time. (WBTW)
  2. The city of North Myrtle Beach unanimously passed its first reading of a proposal to limit vulgar music in the city. Several complaints have been filed regarding loud music late at night with explicit lyrics. A new noise ordinance was implemented this summer, and police have been seen checking decibel levels using special detection equipment. A second reading of the new ordinance will be on next month's meeting agenda. (WMBF)
  3. Myrtle Beach Police Department along with the United Way of Horry County are creating a program to cut down on panhandling. The program is called Safe Giving, and will be promoted throughout the downtown area with signage. The idea is to encourage folks to donate to the program, rather than give spare change to individual panhandlers. The money would then be distributed to non-profit organizations working with the homeless community. (wpde.com)
  4. Horry County Council may revise the county's flood ordinance which currently states that new homes need to be elevated three feet above FEMA flood zones or supplemental flood zones that were put in place after Hurricane Florence. The revision would target specific issues regarding water storage, and is scheduled to be discussed at this week's meeting. (WMBF)
  5. Coastal Carolina University theatre department students are protesting after racial insensitivity occurrences in the department. The students indicate that the issues have been going on for a long time, and escalated last week after some students' names were written on a board, and a professor made insensitive comments about the situation. That professor and other staff members have issued public apologies. Students did not attend class on Monday, and are calling for the professor's suspension. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
