Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine is showing promise against the delta variant. Yahoo Finance’s Anjalee Khemlani shares the details.

AKIKO FUJITA: Well, we got some good news on the COVID front today and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. New data out from the company pointing to strong immunity against the Delta variant eight months after inoculation. Let's bring in Yahoo Finance's Anjalee Khemlani, who is tracking that for us. And Anjalee, certainly a big sigh of relief for more than 10 million Americans who've got this vaccine. What specifically did the data say?
ANJALEE KHEMLANI: Well, it's not just the 10 million, but really, this sort of seals the deal in terms of confirming that all the vaccines that have been approved in the US are now showing promise against that Delta variant. And this is going to be really important not only for now, as the US continues to push for more vaccinations, but also globally, as well as for the fall, because that is when experts are really looking at and are concerned about this Delta variant taking hold and possibly being problematic.
But it also showed, the data, that the time period that the vaccine is holding out is also a really long time. So that is something that's really important, especially when you talk about eight months out. That's the data that they have so far. And all these vaccines are showing prolonged protection. This is important, too, of course, when we talk about kids. Because we know that right now, they remain unvaccinated. And there's some concern there. I spoke to vaccine expert Dr. Paul Offit earlier today. And this is what he had to say about that.
PAUL OFFIT: Come winter, I think we may not have a vaccine in hand. And children are unlikely to be masked or social distanced. I think the recommendation should be come winter, the children should do what they did last year winter and mask and social distance to the degree possible.
ANJALEE KHEMLANI: So as you can hear, really good news for adults, but still that concern for kids and the impact that they're going to be facing because of this variant. So a lot going on right now in that space. Akiko.
