The Oregon Health Authority on Saturday reported three COVID-19 deaths and 888 new cases, continuing an ongoing trend of growing case numbers that is forecast to continue into May.
The state recorded 3,722 confirmed or presumed infections for the week ending Sunday, April 11, up 26% from the previous week. New cases again outpaced the increase in week-to-week testing, which stood at 11%. ZIP codes outside the Portland area saw the most new cases last week while several rural areas saw the highest rates of spread.
On Monday, the state will open vaccinations to Oregonians age 16 and older, a group that originally were slated to wait longer for their shot. It appears Oregon isn’t expected to receive an increase of vaccine supplies, so it’s likely that only those who are quick to act and well connected will find appointments.
