It’s no surprise the president who garnered the most votes in history now has a highway named after him near his native Pa. city. What’s unusual is the vulgar graffiti aimed at the president that surfaced last week, embarrassing some in Joe Biden’s home town of Scranton.
As the Citizens Voice reports, the graffiti beginning with an ‘F’ appeared Thursday along Interstate 81 near one of the new signs directing motorists to the city expressway renamed in his honor. Worse, it happened just days after the new Biden highway signs went up.

The newspaper reports the vulgarity wasn’t up for long, noting the state Department of Transportation quickly dispatched a crew to paint over the graffiti that was painted on concrete barriers along I-81 South just north of the new President Joseph R. Biden Jr. Expressway exit.
The Biden highway honor was the brainchild of Scranton City Council, voted unanimously in late July to rename the expressway and Spruce Street for the 46th president, a city native.
Council President Bill Gaughan told the Citizens Voice he is disheartened by the vandalism, which he ultimately blamed on Biden’s 2020 rival, former President Donald Trump and the baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen.
Gaughan said Trump’s actions “unleashed a nastiness and meanness throughout our country like I have never seen before.”
“We need to stand up to it,” Gaughan told the newspaper. “This is not the Scranton that I know. We can do better than this.”
