The Effingham County Health Department has received confirmation of a COVID-related of a county resident.
The person was in their 90s, and was not vaccinated. That brings the number of COVID-related deaths of county residents to 98 since the pandemic began.
73 new positive cases of COVID were reported in the county in the past seven days. 26 of those are under 40 years old; 13 are under 20 years old.
The Health Department also shared that while the Moderna booster has been recommended, that is not the same as approved. The recommendation by the FDA is just the first step in the approval process. As soon as the booster is fully approved, the Health Department will let people know how and when they can book appointments.
