The Oregon Health Authority on Wednesday reported 1,346 new confirmed or presumptive coronavirus cases and 41 more fatalities, including a 19-year-old from Marion County, the youngest Oregonian to have died from COVID-19.
The numbers represent the second straight day of more than 40 new fatality announcements, though the state said Tuesday that the lengthy process of confirming some deaths had delayed some announcements. More than 30 of the deaths announced Tuesday occurred in 2020.
The state did not provide details on the deaths announced Wednesday but said more information would be released later in the day.
Oregon’s death tally through Tuesday pushed COVID-19 fatalities in December to 513, surpassing deaths from March, April, May, June, July and August combined.
Meanwhile, another 9,071 doses of the coronavirus vaccine were administered Tuesday, marking the third-highest daily total since inoculations began in the state. As of Wednesday, nearly 130,000 first and second doses had been given out, around 40 percent of the 321,225 doses delivered to Oregon.
Where the new cases are by county: Baker (16), Benton (29), Clackamas (105), Clatsop (10), Columbia (13), Coos (9), Crook (19), Deschutes (89), Douglas (25), Gilliam (1), Grant (8), Harney (2), Hood river (6), Jackson (58), Jefferson (23), Josephine (64), Klamath (32), Lake (2), Lane (98), Lincoln (3), Linn (50), Malheur (24), Marion (97), Morrow (9), Multnomah (307), Polk (28), Tillamook (11), Umatilla (52), Union (7), Wasco (13), Washington (110) and Yamhill (26).
New deaths: Of the 41 deaths reported Wednesday, two people were younger than 30: the 19-year-old Marion County man and a 27-year-old man from Washington County. The younger man had preexisting health conditions, and state officials are investigating the medical history of the man in his 20s.

Oregon’s 1,670th COVID-19 death is a 98-year-old man in Clackamas County who tested positive on Dec. 2 and died on Dec. 8 at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center.
Oregon’s 1,671st COVID-19 death is a 78-year-old man in Columbia County who tested positive on Nov. 12 and died on Dec. 12 at his residence.
Oregon’s 1,672nd COVID-19 death is a 77-year-old woman in Crook County who became symptomatic on Jan. 1 and died on Jan. 8 at her residence.
Oregon’s 1,673rd COVID-19 death is an 89-year-old man in Curry County who died on Dec. 20 at Curry General Hospital. His death certificate listed COVID-19 as a cause or significant condition contributing to death.
Oregon’s 1,674th COVID-19 death is an 84-year-old woman in Douglas County who tested positive on Nov. 21 and died on Jan. 4 at her residence.
Oregon’s 1,675th COVID-19 death is an 80-year-old man in Jackson County who tested positive on Dec. 10 and died on Jan. 11 at Providence Medford Medical Center.
Oregon’s 1,676th COVID-19 death is a 69-year-old woman in Jefferson County who tested positive on Dec. 28 and died on Jan. 10 at St. Charles Medical Center—Bend.
Oregon’s 1,677th COVID-19 death is a 66-year-old woman in Lane County who tested positive on Dec. 10 and died on Dec. 19 at McKenzie Willamette Medical Center.
Oregon’s 1,678th COVID-19 death is a 94-year-old man in Lane County who tested positive on Jan. 2 and died on Jan. 10 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart—Riverbend.
Oregon’s 1,679th COVID-19 death is an 89-year-old woman in Marion County who tested positive on Nov. 16 and died on Dec. 3 at her residence.

State officials said each person had underlying conditions, except for in nine fatalities where state officials are still investigating each person’s medical histories.
The prevalence of infections: On Wednesday, the state reported 1,168 new positive tests out of 17,886 tests performed, equaling a 6.5% positivity rate.
Who got infected: New confirmed or presumed infections grew among the following age groups: 0-9 (72); 10-19 (160); 20-29 (254); 30-39 (233); 40-49 (197); 50-59 (158); 60-69 (129); 70-79 (78); 80 and older (46).
Who’s in the hospital: The state reported 434 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections were currently in the hospital Wednesday, 31 more than Tuesday. Of those, 103 coronavirus patients were in intensive care units, 10 more than Tuesday.
Vaccines administered: Oregon has administered 129,782 doses out of 321,225 received, just over 40% of its supply.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 129,109 confirmed or presumed infections and 1,708 deaths, among the lowest totals in the nation. To date, the state has reported 2,874,572 lab reports from tests.
