MADISON, Wis. — The positive percentage of new COVID-19 tests has continued to decline throughout the week, according to the state Department of Health Services.

As of Thursday afternoon, the seven-day positivity rate for new tests by person has dropped to 28.7%, and the percent positive for total tests by day has decreased to 12.3%.

State and county health officials confirmed 3,594* new cases of the virus, bringing the lifetime total to 426,612*. More than 52,000, or 12.3% of cases remain active.

An additional 45 deaths were confirmed, one day after the statewide death toll surpassed 4,000. At least 4,047* have died of coronavirus complications since the start of the pandemic.

DHS officials said 160 more people have been hospitalized, down from Wednesday’s 215. Out of the state’s 11,135 hospital beds, 16% remain available for new patients.

At least 19 inmates throughout Wisconsin have died due to COVID-19, according to the latest report from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
