Alabama added 2,188 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, bringing its total number of cases to 269,877 since March, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.

The numbers show a slight drop from the previous week, when the department added more than 3,000 cases for five straight days. Numbers typically dip on the weekend as testing slows.

Sunday’s cases included 2,011 confirmed cases and 177 probable cases. The state also added eight new COVID-19 deaths on Sunday.

Jefferson County and north Alabama continued to add large numbers of new cases. Jefferson County added 473 new cases Sunday and Madison County added 236. Jackson County, identified as having the third-fastest rate of new coronavirus cases in the nation in a recent report, had 57 new cases. Here’s the full breakdown of new cases by county on Sunday:
