THE UNITED STATES - Though it has been nearly seven months since the first Covid-19 case was reported in the United States, there is still confusion over which protective face masks best prevent the virus from spreading.

New guidance suggests that certain face-covering could be less protective than wearing no mask at all.

Dramatic high-speed video from researchers at Australia's University of New South Wales shows the difference two layers of cloth makes on a mask when someone sneezes.

A separate Duke University study looked at 14 kinds of masks. The N-95 performed the best.

A surgical mask worked well, but bandanas were not effective. Some co-called neck gaiters may not offer any protection at all, according to the researchers.

The CDC is urging people to avoid masks with one-way values or vents because unfiltered droplets could be exhaled, possibly allowing the wearer to transmit Covid-19. Other masks that do not fit correctly may end up being banned as well.

Some airlines and some California businesses have already banned masks with vents. Watch the video to find out more about some of the new mask regulations involved airlines.
